USE THE FOLLOWING PICTURES TO IDENTIFY A DISEASE OR INSECT PROBLEM

Helminthosporium Leaf Spot symtoms on leaves of Kentucky bluegrass. Infections result in oval spots sometimes extending across the entire width of the leaf. The spots are usually brown during early development, then change to light-brown or tan with brown margins. Severe melting-out. Most of the leaves are dead with only the occasional tiller surviving.
Rhizoctonia Brown Patch on Kentucky bluegrass. Symtoms are different from those on bentgrass. Small, circular patches enlarge (30 to 50 cm) and often contain tufts of green grass in the cntre giving a frog-eye appearance similiar to that in Fusarium Blight. Fusarium Blight on Kentucky Bluegrass. Patches, usually 15 to 30 cm but often up to 50 cm, due to tufts of green grass in the centre of each patch.
Powdery Mildew on grass blade showing patches of white fungal growth. Small, black fruiting bodies (cleistothecia) are present within the fungal growth. White grub or June beetle larvae.
The top is European chafer, Rhizotrogus majalis. The bottom shows the larger which is similiar to the white grub, but is slightly smaller. Annual bluegrass weevil, Hyperodes maculicollis, adult.Note the elbowed antennae and short, broad snout.

Hairy chinch bug (top), Blissus leucopterus hirtus, adults. Bottom, Hairy chinch bug nymph. Damage caused by sod-webworm. Symtoms include dead grass that can be easily removedand the presence of dark green particles of excrement embedded in a mass of silk spun by the caterpillar.
